Japan produces less on-month in February

Japan produced less pig iron and crude steel in February on-month due to fewer steel orders in January, according to Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF). But output still rose year-on-year, Kallanish notes. Pig iron and crude steel production were 5.01 million tonnes and 6.99mt respectively, down 6.2% and 3.8% on-month. Although output from electric arc furnaces increased 1.5% on-month to 1.87mt, it could not compensate for a 5.6% decline in converter output …
