January US steel imports climb 16%
US steel imports appear to have risen about 16% from December to January, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Citing both preliminary and permit data from US Commerce Department, AISI says January import permits climbed 16% month on month to 2.696 million short tons. December’s preliminary import tally was 2.323m st, Kallanish notes.
The AISI estimates total finished steel market share in January to be about 25%.
