January imports spike in December, AISI says
US imports of both total and finished steel appeared to rise significantly from December to January, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Citing license data from the US Department of Commerce, AISI puts total January steel imports at 2.927 million short tons and finished January imports at 2.323m st, up 8.5% and 7.7%, respectively. AISI estimates January’s finished steel market share to be 25%.
