Italian scrap seen remaining flat in January
Activity in the Italian scrap market has now halted due to the winter holiday stoppages. The market became quiet over the past week, with prices mostly flat, Kallanish notes.
A mill source believes values in January will consolidate at current levels, despite some sources beginning to talk about a price decline next month. A seller comments: “There is not much scrap available and if steelmakers intend to produce in January, scrap prices cannot fall.”
