Italian scrap market prepares for mill stoppages
Italian scrap prices are stable on-week and demand is now becoming quiet. Mills have ordered enough material for July delivery and some are idling their plants between 20 and 23 July for four-week maintenance stops, Kallanish notes.
Volumes this month are relatively low but so is demand. Some steelmakers had to increase their prices in the first days of the month by €10-15/tonne ($11-15) as domestic values had fallen too low in June.
