Institute extracts iron from aluminium waste mud

An economical process using green hydrogen can be used to extract iron from the red mud generated in aluminium production, a German research institute claims. Scientists at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE), a centre for iron research, speak of a “relatively simple way” to convert the iron oxide contained in the red mud into iron.
