Indonesia’s Gunung Garuda commissions SMS furnace
PT Gungung Garuda produced beam blanks for the first time last week on its new four-strand caster, according to equipment supplier SMS Group. A new EAF and caster have boosted the unit’s capacity to 800,000 tonnes/year, Kallanish notes.
SBQ grade beam blanks were cast in 460x400x110mm and 300x250x90mm on the new equipment last week. The caster can opt to use three of its four strands or to cast two different dimensions simultaneously, SMS says.
