Indian scrap imports rebound, Brazil, Australia hike supply
Indian scrap imports rebounded in May by 5% on-year to 780,088 tonnes, following their massive slump in April, Kallanish learns from Indian commerce ministry provisional data. This suggests steel mills ramped up feedstock buying to cater for the export market while domestic demand was still paralysed by the Covid-19-related lockdown.
The average value of imported obsolete scrap under HS code 720449 was $316/tonne versus $348/t in May 2019.
