Indian mills target cheaper coke imports
India's met coke imports surged 7% year-on-year in the first half of 2024, reaching 2.22 million tonnes. The rise is driven by a significant price advantage for imported met coke, particularly from Indonesia and China, notes Kallanish.
China remained the dominant supplier, exporting 0.98mt to India. However, Indonesia has emerged as a major player with 0.49mt of exports due to its competitive pricing compared to domestic met coke.
