India’s January exports surge amid sluggish consumption growth
Indian finished steel production contracted by 2.1% on-month to 1.16 million tonnes in January, compared to 1.18mt in December, according to Joint Plant Committee (JPC) preliminary data accessed by Kallanish. Indian steel exports meanwhile hit an 18-month high.
Finished steel imports fell by 14.6% m-o-m to 771,000 tonnes in January, but exports rose by 31.4% m-o-m to 846,000t in January. This came as consumption inched up only 0.8% on-month to 1.2mt.
