India cements second-producer status despite slower production growth
Indian crude steel production fell -0.8% on-year in December 2019 to 9.28 million tonnes. However, this did not prevent full-year 2019 production from rising 1.8% on-year to 111.25mt, according to worldsteel data.
India thus cemented its place as the world’s second-largest steel-producing nation, pulling further away from third-placed Japan which saw output fall -4.8% to 99.3mt.
