Increased costs compound USSK's lower third-quarter shipments
US Steel Kosice reduced shipments 19% on-year in the third quarter to 867,000 net tons. Raw steel production dropped 26% to 946,000nt, giving capacity utilisation of 75% versus 101% a year earlier, Kallanish notes.
Average realised price was down 11% in Q3 to $1,021/net ton. Net sales fell 26% to $927 million and the firm reported an Ebitda loss of $12m versus positive Ebitda of $418m a year earlier.
