Steel imports dip in US in December
US total steel imports slipped in December but finished steel imports ticked up slightly, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
The US imported a total of 2.686 million short tons in December, down -4.3% from November. Finished steel imports were 2.146m st, up 0.6% from November.
Full-year 2016 imports totalled 33.009m st, of which 26.327m st were finished product. These were both down -14.9% and 16.4%, respectively.
