IDEAS: Malaysia needs carbon pricing for greener steel
Malaysian think tank the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) has called on policymakers to lead the charge towards a greener steel industry, Kallanish notes.
This includes initiating a phased approach to carbon pricing in the steel industry, starting with a temporary tax on coking coal and transitioning to a comprehensive cap-and-trade scheme. This would create economic incentives for emissions reductions.
