United Arab Emirates shipped 222,791 tonnes of steel to the US in 2019, up 1% on 2018 despite Section 232 duties, according to US Department of Commerce data monitored by Kallanish.

The structure of supplies changed, however. Flat product imports fell -20% to 91,590t, but pipe and tube imports rose 9% to 91,466t and long product imports grew 86% to 36,697t.

Saudi Arabian steel shipments into the US rose 21% in 2019 to 90,710t, supported by a 20% increase in pipe and tube supply to 85,544t.

Omani supply to the US rose 83% last year to 89,004t, with pipe and tube deliveries up 6% to 51,521t and longs deliveries up to 37,482t from zero in 2018.

Egypt, however, supplied -35% less to the US in 2019 at 94,673t, with flats shipments down -45% to 52,840t and longs down -17% to 41,832t.
