GrafTech earnings driven by tripling of electrode prices
US graphite electrode producer GrafTech returned to the black in the third quarter, driven by a perfect storm of supply-side conditions for graphite electrodes, Kallanish reports.
GrafTech earned $199 million in Q3, up from a loss of $4m in Q3 2017, on sales of $455m, up from sales of $137m in Q3 2017.
In that same time period, the price for graphite electrodes rose from $2,903/tonne to $9,744/t.
