Government deals UK shipbuilding 'body blow', says union
Trade union GMB says the UK government’s decision to halt the acquisition of Type 31E frigates is a “…real body blow” to the shipbuilding industry.
The Ministry of Defence says it has been forced to rethink the acquisition strategy for its Type 31e general-purpose frigate programme. This comes after it terminated the original acquisition process, citing insufficient compliant bids for an effective and robust competition.
