Global/Chinese crude steel output upticks again
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) says that global crude steel output from its 67 reporting countries was 143.3 million tonnes in May 2017, up 2.0% year-on-year, Kallanish notes. Capacity utilisation also rose slightly on-year again during the month, but dipped compared to April 2017.
China produced 72.3mt in the month, an increase of 1.8% on May 2016 and still representing just over half of the world’s crude steel output at 50.4%.
