Global crude steel production sees healthy January rise
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) says that global crude steel output from its 67 reporting countries was 136.5 million tonnes in January 2017, up 7.0% year-on-year, Kallanish notes.
China produced 67.2mt in the month, an increase of 7.4% on January 2016. This apparently high figure may be explained by the fact that January 2016 saw a marked dip in Chinese steel production, worldsteel says.
