German union rejects mills’ offer in wage talks
The annual collective wage bargaining for steelworkers between union IG Metall and mill employers started in Düsseldorf on Monday.
The negotiations cover the northwestern and the eastern German chapters, which include most large mills of thyssenkrupp, ArcelorMittal and Salzgitter. As Kallanish reported, the union issued its demand for a wage increase of 8.5% weeks ago, plus a reduction of working hours from 35 to 32.
