German union asks for 8% wage increase
Germany’s IG Metall union will enter the upcoming round of wage talks demanding an 8.2% increase for its employees in northwestern and eastern Germany.
This is a respectable claim, compared with the wage talks in early 2021, when the union had initially asked for 4%, Kallanish notes. The union points to an overall stable economy, with full order books and high utilisation at mills, while employees are pressured by inflation that is mostly hitting consumers.
