Further electrodes pressure foreseen in 2018
Sufficient graphite electrode capacity exists to cover current demand, but a shortage in needle coke, as well as technical limitations will delay the recovery in electrode capacity utilisation, according to CRU.
Electric arc furnace-based steel output around the world will rise in the near-term to compensate for reduced Chinese exports. This will increase demand for electrodes and put further pressure on the market in 2018, CRU observes.
