FTC blocks Yusco purchase of Tang Eng
Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has prohibited Yieh United Steel Corporation (Yusco) and Yieh Phui Enterprise from acquiring Tang Eng Iron Works, Kallanish notes.
This is the second time FTC has rejected the proposal, after rejecting it 15 years ago. The commission believes that the merger will cause damage to industry interests by restricting competition, and this outweighs the benefits brought about by the merger such as efficiency improvements.
