French scrap prices hike
French scrap prices are increasing by €25-30/tonne ($28-34), mostly due to tight availability for the higher grades and E40 shredded scrap generated by car body scrapping.
Steelmakers are demanding material, particularly demolition grade E3 that can replace E8 new arisings for quality steelmaking. Demand for finished products, particularly flats, is now picking up in Europe and coil price hikes are underway, Kallanish notes.
