French long product prices are steady this month compared to July and August prices, local sources tell Kallanish. Ferrous scrap values meanwhile are falling on the same comparison.

Longs prices are stable m-o-m. Rebar remains at €240/tonne ($263/t) base delivered. Merchant bar prices are at €80/t base ex-works. Competition is high however due to cheaper product imported from Spain and this is causing to market to be both depressed and confused, sources say. The market for merchant bars is difficult with both prices and sales volumes steady but at a low level.

The situation for ferrous scrap is in line with lower prices witnessed in Italy and Spain where prices have dipped by between €20-30/t month-on-month. Merchants in France are indicating a fall of €25/t with very low levels of demand and associated low sales volumes. They are forecasting that the market is to remain quiet until the end of September.
