Big Three US automaker Ford is spending $1.45 billion to add manufacturing capacity in Michigan, Kallanish learns from a company release.

About $750 million will be spent over the next three years to add capacity at its Wayne, Michigan, works for the production of two new vehicles and “...a new modification centre to support autonomous vehicles,” the company says.

An additional $700m will be allotted to its Dearborn, Michigan, works to expand its light truck production – including an all-electric truck.

During the company’s negotiations with the United Auto Workers (UAW) labour union this year, Ford pledged $6 billion in domestic investments to safeguard about 8,500 manufacturing jobs.

"The UAW is proud of Ford’s commitment to manufacturing in the United States and in Michigan,” says UAW president Rory Gamble. “This is a direct result of the 2019 collective bargaining process, providing additional jobs – and job security – for UAW members in Southeast Michigan.”
