Southern European cold rolled coil and hot dip galvanized prices are losing €20/tonne ($23/t) on average compared to September. Prices are seen to remain under pressure due to the high level of imports from third countries and increased competition amongst producers, market sources tell Kallanish.

While prices are higher in Northern Europe but still under pressure, Italy and Spain are particularly exposed to shipments from third countries. Local producers therefore are adapting their prices to take account of lower import quotations. The market is afflicted by overcapacity, a factor which is also contributing to the price fall.

At the moment in Southern Europe CRC finished ex-works prices for October contracts are in the range €380-480/t ($433-548/t). HDG base ex-works now starts at €350-360/t and this increases according to quality and thickness, sources say.
