EU drives Turkey's scrap import rise in January
Turkey's scrap imports grew 34% year-on-year in January to 1.53 million tonnes, driven by a surge in procurement from the European Union, Kallanish notes from the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data.
The increase follows a -4.7% y-o-y decline in December. Compared to December, however, January's scrap imports were down -12%. The total average value/tonne of these imports increased to $257/t from $197/t a year earlier.
