Egyptian rebar sales slump in May
Egyptian domestic market rebar sales declined -19% on-year in May to 622,100 tonnes, according to the latest Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) data monitored by Kallanish.
The average price of May sales rose 31% to EGP 12,605/tonne ($708 at May exchange rates), but this was down from the all-time high in April.
Rebar production fell -5% in May to 584,500t. Egyptian crude steel production that month rose 8.8% to 626,000t, according to worldsteel data.
