Rail service interruption hampers Kumba’s first-half shipments
South African iron ore miner Kumba, a subsidiary of Anglo American, increased iron ore production in the first half of 2023 but sales declined due to rail service constrains.
Kumba’s H1 output rose 6% on-year to 18.8 million tonnes. However, ore railed to port decreased by 3%, resulting in lower finished stock levels at Saldanha Port and, consequently, sales falling 4% to 18.9mt, Kallanish notes.
