DRI seaborne trade rises, pandemic to hamper shipments
Midrex says global direct reduced iron trade in 2020 is expected to follow the trends seen in 2019, but volumes will be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Global DRI shipments were 19.61 million tonnes last year, down from an annual record 21.52mt in 2018.
Russia was the largest exporter in 2019 with 3.6mt, with most coming from the three hot-briquetted iron plants at Lebedinsky GOK. Trinidad and Tobago exported about 1.7mt of cold DRI, almost entirely to the US. …
