DRI output grows faster than steel in GCC
Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report grew 12% on-year in January to 3.52 million tonnes, Kallanish notes. Crude steel output surged 29.5% that month to 3.84mt.
The DRI growth was driven by an estimated 13% production increase in Iran to 2.5mt. Iran’s crude steel output that month is estimated to have surged 47% to 2.9mt.
