Declining demand, costlier raw materials hamper IDC performance
Izmir Demir Celik (IDC) saw its sales and margins squeezed in the first quarter due to declining Turkish steel consumption and rising raw materials costs, Kallanish notes.
The Turkish electric arc furnace-based steelmaker reported a -25% on-year decrease in finished product sales in Q1 to 312,582 tonnes, while semi-finished product sales reached 11t versus zero last year. Exports declined -26% to 94,750t.
