Daido Steel targets more high-grade steel
Japan’s Daido Steel has installed a new vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnace at its Shibukawa Plant in Gunma Prefecture, with an investment of JPY 750 million ($5.08m), Kallanish notes.
The company expects a demand hike for high-grade steel such as nickel-based alloys and clean stainless steel. For the same reason, Daido Steel added one 25-tonne vacuum induction furnace (VIM) in 2016 and two VARs in 2019 at the same plant.
