County hands down emission mandates to US Steel
US Steel has been ordered by Allegheny County’s Health Department (ACHD) to reduce the use of coke oven gas and limit daily sulphur dioxide (SO₂) emissions. This happens in the wake of a fire that occurred on 24 December at the Clairton Coke Works, Kallanish reports. ACHD’s enforcement order applies to all of the company’s Mon Valley facilities in Pennsylvania and includes the flare at the company’s Irwin plant.
