Container, bulk scrap prices soar in East Asia
The Taiwanese scrap import market continues to rise amid higher asking prices from the US, Kallanish understands.
Recent deals this week for container HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap from Australia and Canada took place at $355-357/tonne cfr Taiwan. Buyers include two leading mills in Taiwan.
US offers have shot up to $365-370/t cfr Taiwan. “Buyers don’t even want to consider paying $360/t cfr,” a Taipei trader said Wednesday.
