Columbus Stainless contracts Danieli to revamp slab caster
South Africa’s Columbus Stainless has contracted Danieli Automation for the electrical and automation revamp of its stainless steel slab caster.
The 1990s-era caster is currently a production bottleneck for the plant, with a maximum casting capacity of 72,000 tonnes/month. The work will include a shutdown of only two weeks, and the plant is expected to be restarted less than six months after the order of the revamp, according to Danieli.
