Coking coal trades up on commodity surge
Seaborne coking coal prices have seen limited gains so far this year on the back of the unexpected strength in steel and iron ore. The latest GlobalCoal trade confirms the increase but domestic Chinese prices show that oversupply is likely to keep prices down in the medium term, Kallanish notes.
75,000 tonnes of unbranded hard coking coal sold for $81.30/t fob Australia on GlobalCoal on Monday. This compares with a deal at $76.75/t on 23 February.
