Cliffs applies to decommission Newfoundland mine
US iron ore producer Cliffs Natural Resources has applied to the Newfoundland ministry of environment and conservation to decommission and rehabilitate its Wabush Mines iron ore complex in Labrador, Newfoundland, Kallanish notes.
Cliffs closed Wabush Mines in 2014 with around 500 jobs losses. At the time the company cited the tumbling seaborne iron ore price as the reason.
