Cleveland-Cliffs confirms Weirton transformer investment
Ohio-based steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs is investing $150 million to repurpose its Half Moon Warehouse in Weirton, West Virginia to produce three-phase distribution transformers used in electric power distribution systems, the company confirms.
Cliffs has been granted a $50m forgivable loan for the new plant, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, the firm says.
