Chrome ore drives South African export earnings
South Africa's first-half chromium ore export revenue on a free-on-rail (for) basis surged 58.3% on-year to ZAR 12.55 billion ($667.9 million). However, export volumes only increased 2.6% on-year to 2.9 million tonnes from 2.83mt in H1 2022.
Chromium ore average export prices soared 53.3% on-year to a monthly average of ZAR 4,332/tonne. Local currency depreciation had little impact on the average hike, notes Kallanish.
