Chinese steel surges as Baosteel leads profit boost
Chinese steel prices surged to close to their limit on Tuesday amid reports of tight supply and falling inventories. Baosteel meanwhile led a pack of steelmakers releasing better results, which also helped to boost confidence, Kallanish notes.
The January rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up a massive CNY 100/tonne at CNY 2,569/t ($380/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed up CNY 104/t at CNY 2,884/t.
