Chinese steel prices end week down on overproduction

Chinese rebar prices fell last week with rebar futures at historic lows. Stagnant demand has come under pressure from robust steel production and analysts say output may be even higher than official figures, Kallanish notes. The January 2016 rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed down CNY 4/tonne at CNY 1,891/t ($296/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil was down CNY 2/t at CNY 1,916/t.
