Chinese steel imports slip on weak demand
Chinese steel imports fell again in April after rebounding in March, Chinese Customs data show. The figure adds to evidence that China’s boost to lending at the start of the year has not led to the expected increase in manufacturing activity, Kallanish notes.
China imported 1.1 million tonnes of steel in April, down -15.7% year-on-year and -13.39% from March. Over January-April imports were down -4.6% to 4.23mt.
