Chinese steel futures see limited growth
Despite support from further steel production cuts, Chinese rebar and hot rolled coil futures saw limited increases on Monday because demand is declining and prices are close to the limit of the government’s tolerance, Kallanish notes.
On the Shanghai Futures Exchange the October rebar contract closed CNY 16/tonne higher than the previous Friday at CNY 5,687/t ($877/t), and the same contract for HRC closed down CNY 22/t at CNY 5,990/t.
