Chinese rebar soars on holiday restocking
The Chinese rebar market skyrocketed before the holiday, demand has recovered and expectations remain strong, Kallanish notes.
In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 4,770-4,800/tonne ($727-731/t), up by CNY 195/t from a week before. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the rebar contract for May 2021 closed at CNY 5,157/t, CNY 154/t higher compared with Thursday and CNY 223/t higher than the previous Friday.
