Chinese rebar rebounds, July economy slows
China's rebar market was in turmoil last week, with weak spot purchasing counteracting an improvement in fundamentals.
In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 3,620-3,640/tonne ($496-499/t), up CNY 40/t from the previous week, Kallanish assesses. The October 2023 rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed at CNY 3,700/t, down CNY 26/t compared with Thursday but up CNY 9/t from the previous Friday.
