Chinese rebar gains on confidence
Chinese rebar prices skyrocketed after the holiday, but market sentiment was weaker on Friday, Kallanish notes.
In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 4,370-4,400/tonne ($677-682/t), up by CNY 175/t from before the holiday. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, meanwhile, the rebar contract for May 2021 closed at CNY 4,524/t. This was CNY 5/t lower compared with Thursday but CNY 120/t higher than the previous Friday.
