Chinese pellet imports strong, seaborne supply rises: Ferrexpo
High domestic production costs will support Chinese imports of iron ore pellet, while an additional 8 million tonnes/year of seaborne pellet supply could be added to the market in 2018, according to Ferrexpo.
China consumed 144mt of pellet in 2017, up 7% on-year. Its own production rose 4% to 125mt and imports grew 27% to 19mt. China is estimated to have closed circa 60m t/y of pelletising capacity considered obsolete.
