Chinese steel imports hit new high

Chinese steel imports surged again in December 2019 to the highest level since May 2009. The surge had been driven by strong Chinese prices and a number of new suppliers, Kallanish notes. In December 2019, China imported a total of 2.438 million tonnes of semi-finished and finished steel, up 38.9% month-on-month and 110% year-on-year, according to detailed customs statistics.
